Past Events
Since 2021, the Crestone Dark Sky Committee has been organizing annual events to honor and admire our dark skies, as well as bring awareness to our magnificent skies and the importance of maintaining little to no light in our community.
With gratitude for Mayor Kairina Danforth's efforts... Crestone's Inaugural Dark Sky Community Event and Celebration took place on May 14, 2021 after a long and detailed process of applying with the International Dark-Sky Association.
Dark Sky Crestone celebrated our night skies with a community music festival at the conclusion of that first summer, complete with live music, dancing, beautiful people, the Saturday Market and much fun for everyone!
This event was held at the Colorado College - Baca Campus. An evening dedicated to opening our eyes, hearts,
and minds, taking in the night sky together.
Poetry contest by local students, Native American Flute music and more.

This event was held at the Crestone Charter School. The Shumei "Hikari" Taiko group opened this festival, which was filled with educational presentations, dancing, vendors, food, celebratory live music and viewing of the stars through telescopes.

Local astronomy enthusiasts, Scott Stevens and Mike Lewinski led us in Experiencing the Night.
This year's celebration happened during the Perseid Meteor Shower, whose radiance rises with the constellation Perseus in the northeast, climbing higher and higher as the night progresses.
This event was held at the Colorado College - Baca Campus, and was filled with live music and star poetry, speakers, a time lapse show, a planetarium show, telescopes and ecstatic dance. There was a unique panel discussion about "SPIRIT, SCIENCE AND EXTRATERRESTRIALS."
