About
Since 2021, the Town of Crestone and The Baca Grande subdivision have been proud to be recognized as a Dark Sky Community, one of over 250 Dark Sky places worldwide. The International Dark-Sky Association works to protect the night skies for present & future generations.

Mission
The mission of the Dark Sky Crestone Foundation is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our birthright to natural dark skies through the promotion of environmentally responsible outdoor lighting practices, policy development, and collaborative agreements. Our efforts include public engagement, educational symposiums and festivals.
We are dedicated to supporting our community's commitment to embrace and celebrate the natural starlight. We encourage individual and collective action to reduce and/or eliminate light pollution. In doing so, we aim to provide a healthier environment for wildlife, enhance human well-being, and ensure the continued appreciation and wonder of star-filled nights.
Vision
Our Vision is to be a community who honors the sacred agreement to protect the awe, inspiration, and glory of the natural night sky for future generations.
We are a community recognized for its dedication to maintaining dark skies, serving as a model for sustainable lighting solutions that promote human wellness, support natural wildlife, and nurture a profound connection with the universe.
We pride ourselves on being a community that can see and experience our galaxy in the celestial heavens under the Milky Way with the naked eye.
Our community realizes and understands the honor and benevolence of living with the universe at our fingertips.
