About
Since 2021, the Town of Crestone has been proud to be recognized as a Dark Sky Community, one of over 250 Dark Sky places worldwide. The International Dark-Sky Association works to protect the night skies for present & future generations.

Vision
The vision of the Dark Sky Crestone Foundation is to be a community who honors the sacred agreement to protect the natural night sky for future generations.
We are a community recognized for its dedication to nurturing dark skies, serving as a model for sustainable lighting solutions that promote human wellness, support natural wildlife, and nurture a profound connection with the universe.
We pride ourselves on being a community that can see and experience our Milky Way galaxy with the naked eye.
Mission
The mission of the Dark Sky Crestone Foundation is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and the natural dark skies.
Our efforts include public engagement, educational symposiums, and festivals.
We are dedicated to protecting the natural starlight.
We encourage individual and collective action to reduce and/or eliminate light pollution. In doing so, we aim to provide a healthier environment for wildlife, enhance human well-being, and ensure the continued appreciation of star-filled nights.
